I'm so excited to share these with you! I met with a bride and groom way back in March to design some save-the-dates and wedding invitations. The bride is actually my third cousin (I think that's how it works). Her mom and my mom are first cousins. Our families weren't very close growing up. In fact, I think I've only met the bride three times (including the design session and the build session on Saturday). We invited her mom to our wedding. She had remembered our over-the-top wedding invitations and suggested her daughter contact me when she wanted something over-the-top for her own wedding. I'm glad she did. I had so much fun working with them - and getting to know my extended family better!
It's going to be a fun wedding! It's small - immediate family only. We only had to make 15 invitations. It's a destination wedding to Hershey Park around Halloween. They've got all sorts of fun activities planned - including Hershey Park in the Dark. They're suggesting the kids bring their Halloween costumes when they go. Because it's small, they could pull off over-the-top wedding invitations. They're actually pretty basic, but pack such "wow".
We made 5x5 explosion boxes using Basic Black, Whisper White, and Melon Mambo Cardstock with just a little Silver Glimmer Paper thrown in. The picture at the top is my version. The real ones are pictured below. The morning I was cutting the supplies, I realized that a glimmer paper bow would be the perfect topper! The bow die wasn't available when we designed them back in March or I might have suggested it. They used silver ribbon on theirs (which you'll see below).
I had intended to take better pictures of my sample later so I didn't take many of the process. But, I can't find big Hershey Kisses anywhere!!! I'm glad they bought theirs when they saw them. Apparently they are "seasonal". Aren't Hershey Kisses in season every day? So, you'll have to settle for the couple of pictures I do have.
If you aren't familiar with an explosion box, they're pretty fun. When you lift the lid off of the top of the box, the sides fall down and reveal the contents - in this case a giant Hershey Kiss. In the photo above you can see that the sides aren't actually connected to one another which makes them fall down when the top is lifted off. On the inside of each side, we typed up all of the details. The open box forms a plus sign. The top side was simply a stamped bride and groom image (retired) with their names and wedding date below in Melon Mambo. The bottom side was the actual invitation with standard wording. The left side provides the itinerary for the 3-day wedding weekend. The right side provides all of the transportation and lodging details. And, in the middle, we adhered a giant Hershey Kiss!
Before we designed them, we talked about delivery options. The invitation is not postal friendly. Some of their guests are from Puerto Rico - so the invites will need to be shipped all of the way to Puerto Rico. But, the bride found white, shippable boxes that are the perfect size for the invitations! She packaged them up with pink packing tape. I loved that it all coordinated. I also loved that they brought the boxes along so I could see the finished product. I just wish I could be a fly on the wall when their guests open theirs!
