A Sneak Peek in July?

Does the layout look familiar?  I used the exact same layout on this month's Stampers Dozen Blog Hop card.  But, I actually made today's card first.  I kinda think I got tricky by layering the vellum under the strip of Designer Series Paper. 

The tree images are actually two different stamps.  The cluster of three on the left is one stamp.  The taller tree is the second.  All of these trees have a layer that you can stamp over them to add leaves or needles.  Since the tree on the right is an evergreen tree, I guess you'd never seen it without needles unless it was dead.  But, I like the look of the "naked" tree.

The grass image comes in the set and I stamped it twice to make the rolling hills go all of the way across.

And, how about that darling little bird?  There are TWO birds in the set that face each other.  They're slightly different.  And, there are TWO framelits that coordinate perfectly with the birds!  SCORE!

You're gonna need this stamp set next month.  I'm just warning you now.  It's super flexible and can be used for just about every single occasion....maybe not Easter...but definitely fall, Christmas, life events, etc!

Saying Thank You to Our Troops

I've had multiple people reach out to me about doing an event for them to make "Patriotic Thank You Cards" for our troops.  I know there are all sorts of organizations out there that collect and send cards to our troops overseas.  I was happy to help!

I knew that the cards needed to be simple for multiple reasons - one because they were mostly all new stampers!  And, the one group would involve me assisting 20 or so participants in making the cards. 

The card designs are essentially all the same card:  a Thick Whisper White card base, a strip of Designer Series Paper, and a stamped focal point mounted on coordinating card stock.  They're all super easy and come together VERY quickly!  If you're interested in making similar cards, I'll post all of the supplies I used below.  You can easily pick and choose which stamp set, colors, and DSP you'd like to use.

A Little Christmas in July!

I always get in the mood for Christmas VERY early!  I was just joking about putting up my trees last weekend.  Don't worry, I'll wait at least until November.  But, that doesn't stop me from making Christmas cards!  Today I'm sharing one I made last weekend.  And, it actually took me ALL weekend to make this card.

I shared yesterday some of the ways I look for inspiration when I design a card.  That process was no different with today's card.  It actually started off to be a "class by mail" featuring the Peace This Christmas stamp set.  What do you think?  Would you be interested in a "class by mail" featuring that set?

I used the This Christmas Specialty Designer Series Paper so I pulled my color inspiration from there.  As far as the layout goes, I'm sure you can easily spot the similarities between my card and the one on page 26 of the Annual Catalog.  Besides the fact that our Christmas Designer Series Paper collections are limited until the Holiday Catalog comes out, this collection of Designer Series Paper is great because you get double the amount!  YES!  You get 4 of each sheet.  The sheets are thinner than regular Designer Series Paper, but that's okay!  It was made that way in case you wanted to use it for gift wrap!  But, it still works just like regular paper.

If you look at my inspiration card on page 26, you can easily spot the similarities.  The pine cone embellishment is actually more of the DSP - I just fussy cut the image.  And, I'll warn you - it isn't the "funnest" image to fussy cut!  There are lots of little angles and leaves and pine needles!  But, the time I spent cutting was SO worth it, I think!

First Attempt: Two-Step Stamping

If you stopped by my blog yesterday, you probably stumbled upon the Stampers Dozen Blog Hop with 13 projects featuring the Two-Step Stamping Technique.  The first card I made for the hop turned out to now showcase Two-Step Stamping....so I figured I'd save it for later.  Well, it's later!

Want to know two of my favorite tricks when trying to kick-start a card?  First, I pull out some of my old cards, pop on Pinterest, or visit some of my favorite blogs looking for a great layout.  Second, when I need a good color combo, I typically turn to pages 172-174 in the Annual Catalog and look at all of the Designer Series Paper collections.  The majority of my cards incorporate DSP anyway - so I might as well start with the DSP to choose my colors.

For this card, the layout was inspired by a card created by Kimberly VanDiepen.  I liked her layout.  I liked the "tilted" background layers.  So, I kept it in mind when laying out my card.  I then used a color combo inspired by the A Little Foxy Designer Series Paper Stack.  I initially was drawn to the DSP because some of the pages feature rain drops.  Granted, I didn't end up using those for this card.  But, the colors still worked!

If you haven't noticed, I love adding vellum accents on my cards.  It's less harsh than a layer of colored cardstock but still adds dimension.  And, it was PERFECT for the clouds, don't ya think?

So, what was I think when I turned a rainy day card into a thank you card?  HELLO?  Shower Thank You Cards, of course!  One of my favorite gifts to give to a bride-to-be or mom-to-be is a set of thank you cards!  It's even better if you can pre-address all of the envelopes for her!  All she has to do is write out the cards and mail them.

Doing the Two-Step!

Thanks for stopping by!  Today's post is special - it's the monthly Stampers' Dozen Blog Hop featuring 13 wonderful Stampin' Up! Demonstrator "Leaders" from the US and Canada.  Granted, you may already know that if you're coming from Janet's or Jodi's blogs.

This month's theme is "Two-Step Stamping".  You probably use the Two-Step (or more) stamping technique without even realizing it!  By definition, it is the process of layering multiple stamped images.  There are all sorts of stamp sets throughout the catalog marked as "Two-Step".  Most of them are photopolymer because it makes them SO much easier to line up. 

As the catalog suggests on page 146, I decided to "Build a Terrarium" with Two-Step Stampin' using the Live, Love, Grow stamp set.  Have you noticed this stamp set pictured on page 147 of the Annual Catalog.  I gotta admit, I hadn't really noticed it until I was hunting down a unique two-step stamp set for today's post.  But it was so fun to play with.  It's also a great stamp set for those of us who don't consider watercoloring a strength!

I started my terrarium by stamping the "glass" cover.  I love that even the glass "knob" on top is optional!  I decided to cut mine out since there aren't any detailed cuts.  I stamped the outline images in Black Memento Ink.  The solid images were stamped in Watermelon Wonder, Delightful Dijon, and Cucumber Crush.  The gravel is stamped in Sahara Sand and the solid gravel is stamped off Sahara Sand.

Now, you may be wondering why I decided to use a "Congratulations" sentiment on the front.  Well, I used the Floral Phrases stamp set.  The inside sentiment seemed a perfect fit:  "May your love grow stronger, deeper, and more beautiful with every passing year."  OH!  Yep! That makes sense now, right?

It's hard to see in the photo, but I did some interesting layering.  I adhered a 3-1/4" x 4-1/2" vellum card stock layer directly to the Sahara Sand base.  I then layered a 2" x 4-1/4" strip of Serene Scenery DSP over the vellum with just a bit of the new Very Vanilla Lace trim poking out of the bottom.  I wrapped some Linen thread around the 3" x 4-1/4" Whisper White layer before adhering that layer with dimensionals.

Happy Birthday Dad!

Today is my father's birthday.  I'm sad that I'm not there in person to celebrate.  I never know what to get him.  But, he usually has a long list of tools on his wish list for his shop.  So, I decided to just package up some cash to put towards his wish list this year.  But, just giving cash is boring.  That's when I spotted today's cute packaging idea over on Shelli's blog.  I knew it would be perfect for my photographer of a father!

Shelli provided some info, but didn't really provide any dimensions or instructions other than the shutter button was 20, 1/2" circles stacked.  Funny enough - when I adhered 20 circles on top of each other, I thought it looked too tall.  But, she gave some ideas of the supplies needed.  So, if you want to make a similar package, here's what I did:

My box is 5" wide, 3-1/4" tall, and 3/4" deep.  I cut my paper to 12" x 4-3/4".  I then scored the long side at 3/4", 5-3/4", 6-1/2", and 11-1/2".  I scored the short side at 3/4" and 4".

On the box Shelli showed, she used two Glue Dot rolls to make the lens.  However, the box I was using to ship his gift wasn't deep enough for two.  So his gift box doesn't have quite as much zoom!

Let's chat about the stamps.  Shelli didn't give any hints about which sets she used.  But, I quickly found them!  Wherever You Go was used for the black starburst background.  The greetings were both from the Confetti Celebration stamp set.

Both of the Designer Series Paper pieces are from the Pop of Pink Specialty DSP collection.  The chevron pattern is 12" x 1-3/4".  I'm honestly not positive of the dimensions of the piece around the glue dot roll.  I used the glue dot roll as a guide.

The view-finder is pretty cool.  You can actually look through the box like you would a real camera!  I created it using my 1/2" and 3/4" circle punches.  None of the circles in the layering circles framelits were small enough.  So, slid the 3/4" circle punch in as low as I could.  For alignment, I lined up the edge of my punch with the score line so that the circles on the front and back of the camera would be lined up.  I used a small square window sheet to cover the circle.

I embellished using some Real Red Enamel Shapes (the larger circle) and some 1/8" Smoky Slate Stitched Ribbon.  I'm pretty pleased with the way it turned out.  I sure hope my father likes it!

It's All in the Details....

Moroccan Notes

I sat down yesterday to create a stack of quick and simple "thinking of you" cards and the result was anything but quick and simple!  It's funny how our styles can change from day to day, isn't it? 

I wasn't quite sure where to begin, so I decided to flip through the catalog for inspiration.  I stumbled upon the Peace, Joy & Love Christmas card on the bottom of page 26 in the Annual Catalog.  I loved the layout.

My next step was to choose a color palette.  So, I flipped back a few pages to the Designer Series Papers and decided upon the Moroccan DSP.

Is this how you design your cards?  What is your routine?  Granted, I'm sure for many of us it varies.  I often turn to Pinterest for ideas.

Let's dissect this card, shall we?  I used a Cajun Craze card base.  I'm not sure if you notice, but I tend to display top-fold cards on my blog.  I personally think they look better in blog photos.  But, I prefer side-fold cards for mailing.  Why?  Because if someone chooses to display the card standing up, it won't collapse like a top-fold card would.  Yes, I give it that much thought!  If I'm preparing cards for a class, I lean towards side-fold as well since I package up all of the supplies in an envelope and the side fold sticks out less.  I bet you didn't realize I put that much thought into the folds on my cards, did you?  I know over the years many of you at classes and workshops have commented that my sample may fold differently than the supplies I've cut.  Now you know why!  The sample was made for my blog.  But, the supplies were made so they'd be more recipient friendly and packagable.  Have you fallen asleep?

ANYWAY....I embossed the Very Vanilla layer (4" x 5-1/4") using the new Sparkle Embossing Folder.  But, what you may notice is that I adhered the raised side to the card base so that my plus signs were debossed.

The Cajun Craze layer of Moroccan DSP measures 4" x 1-3/4".  I started with a 2" wide strip but decided that it was just a bit too overpowering.  Also, during the design phase, I decided that a little strip of Night of Navy would look sharp running right along the bottom of that strip.  So, I adhered a scrap of 4" wide Night of Navy with just the slightest edge peeking out.  You might not even notice it at first, but it adds a lot.

The more colorful DSP banner measures 1-1/2" x 4".  Why did I choose 1-1/2" wide?  Two reasons:  it fit in my triple banner punch AND I liked the way the pattern lined up.  The Very Vanilla banner measures 1-3/4" x 3-1/2".  I chose 1-3/4" wide because that was the width of the sentiment I'd chosen.  I do kinda wish I'd made the banner a little shorter, but I decided that after the card was assembled and didn't trust myself to fussy cut a straight line.

Speaking of fussy cutting, on my inspiration card, there is an incredibly detailed fussy cut embellishment.  I chose to use some Thinlits instead. 

I also added some of the new 5/8" burlap ribbon, some very hard to see copper thread, and a Cajun Craze enamel dot to finish it off.

Even thought the card is the exact opposite of what I was trying to accomplish, I'm really happy with how it turned out.  Now it's back to the drawing board to design that quick and simple card!

It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas...

Always an Adventure - Simple Christmas

In my opinion, it is NEVER too early for Christmas!  Let me introduce you to the very first Christmas card of the 2016 Holiday Season.  Seriously.  Yes, I know it is June.  But I just couldn't help myself.  In fact, this wasn't the first Christmasy project I created yesterday.  Yup!  I started designing favors for the "Annual Kortonick Christmas Bash".  The date is set, the menu is coming together, I have some decor and entertainment planned, and the guest list is growing!  I know, I know, it's only June.  But December is gonna sneak up on us!

Anyway....I recently spotted some sort of project on Pinterest that featured the little die-cut tree on today's card.  It's from the Always an Adventure Stamp Set.  And, you may have overlooked that set.  I kinda did at first.  It doesn't immediately look like something you'd use a lot.  So why invest in the bundle, right?  There are SO many adorable bundles in the new catalog.  But, when I spotted that tree, I immediately thought Simple Christmas Card!  And this EXACT card is what I immediately imagined.

Well, I actually imagined it with a different "Merry Christmas" font, but the one in my mind must be retired!  My "current" options are kinda limited until the Holiday Catalog comes out in a couple of months.  But, this totally works, right?

Is it too simple?  It's kinda the opposite of the patriotic explosion from yesterday.  Many of you commented, emailed, or messaged me on Facebook with one word: "Wow".  I honestly wasn't sure if "Wow" was a compliment or not.  Ya know....it's kinda like the word "interesting".  To be honest, I didn't like yesterday's card.  It was WAY too busy.  I guess I made up for it today!

I'm thinking this card doesn't need much instruction.  The small, Whisper White square is 1-1/2" x 1-1/2".  The Real Red layer is 1-5/8" x 1-5/8".  The larger Whisper White layer is 3-1/2" x 4-3/4" with a Real Red layer of 3-5/8" x 4-7/8".

Stamper's Dozen Blog Hop - Patriotic

Thanks for stopping by!  Today's post is special - it's the monthly Stampers' Dozen Blog Hop featuring 13 12 wonderful Stampin' Up! Demonstrator "Leaders" from the US and Canada (one of us is still enjoying her time in Europe).  Granted, you may already know that if you're coming from Janet's or Jodi's blogs.

How many new products can you cram onto a card?  That seemed to be what I did when I created the card for today's blog hop!  There are two new stamp sets, two new sets of framelits, four new embellishments, plus the new Designer Foil Accetate sheets.  But, the result is one incredibly patriotic card, don't ya think?  I actually showed this card to Mike when it was complete and his reaction was, "Wow, Patriotic"!  So, I guess I nailed the theme!

When designing today's card, I actually worked hard to find some new stamp sets that weren't getting as much exposure as Swirly Bird.  I'm guessing these two stamp sets may not have been at the top of your wish list.

The "celebrate" sentiment came from the new Ronald McDonald House Set, "My Hero" on the inside back cover of the catalog.  That set certainly has an interesting mix of stamps for a variety of occasions.  The sentiment was cut using the coordinating Cupcake Cutouts Framelits dies.  I love that the little banner is scored when cutting so you can make it pop up like I did on my card!

The remaining stamped images came from the new "Superstar" stamp set.  It caught my eye because I was looking for stars and festive images.  And this one was perfect!  I used the coordinating Stars Framelits and Layering Circles Framelits to cut the images.

The polka dot acetate may not be as obvious to you.  In the catalog you'll notice that the foil is gold.  But, if you flip it over the back is a silvery white!  I could have used either on this card, but I decided to go with the silvery white side.

To adhere the acetate to the card, I actually used a fine line of glue from my Fine Tip Glue Pen along the edge that is hidden by the brand new Real Red Stitched Satin Ribbon.  However, now that the card is together, I could have also hid some glue under the big circle.

The final embellishments were the stars from the Metallics, Brights, and Regals Enamel Shapes.  I gotta admit, I was pretty sad when I realized the new enamel shapes weren't all circles when they came out.  But, I now find it ironic that the first shapes I used out of the pack were the stars!  I'm loving the variety!  I used the Silver from the Metallics, the Real Red from the Brights, and the Night of Navy from the Regals.

Yep, this might be one of the most expensive cards I've ever made!  I hope it inspires you!

Even More Sneak Peek Swaps!

Are you tired of seeing so many Sneak Peeks?  Are you excited for next Wednesday?  Are you counting down the minutes until the new catalog goes live like I am? 

Today I have three more cards I received as part of a recent swap.  They are all very different but use the new Love & Affection Stamp Set.  So, I chose them to showcase the variety!

This first card was created by Bonnie O'Neill.  I love the Black and White with a pop of color.  She used the stamp set to make the patterned background layer to coordinate with her colorful focal point.  What do you think of Sweet Sugarplum?  That's the primary color on this card.  It certainly seemed to be the most predominant of the new in colors in the swaps I received.  So, I'm guessing that's everyone's initial favorite.  What's yours?

The second card is more of my clean and simple style (though I love all three).    The second card was created by Jackie Ross.  In addition to the Love & Affection Stamp Set, she used some of the coordinating Affectionately Yours Designer Series Washi Tape.  And how about those copper embossed flowers?  GOREGOUS!  You NEED to add Copper Embossing Powder to your wish lists!

The final card for today was created by Mary Ellen Stites.  She used the coordinating Affectionately Yours Specialty Designer Series Paper on her card.  Have you tried her color combo?  Night of Navy and Mint Macaron?  I certainly wouldn't have paired them together before I saw this DSP collection.  But, I like it!

Eat All the Cake!

Birthday Banners - Eat All The Cake

This has got to be one of my favorite verses in the new catalog = "Eat All the Cake"!  It comes from the new Birthday Banners stamp set.  And, I'll be honest with you - I cased this card from fellow demonstrator Amy O'Neill.  I changed up the colors a bit and added a layer of Designer Series Paper.  But, the layout is all Amy's.

Do you love it?  I'm starting to fall head over heels in love with this Birthday Banners stamp set.  I'll be honest, when I received it from Prize Patrol at OnStage I was thrilled.  However, every time I pulled it out I wasn't quite sure what to do with it.....mostly because I didn't yet have the coordinating framelits.  BUT, I've made a couple of cards using the set that I absolutely love.

When you look at the Birthday Banners stamp set, you may notice it includes these short, stubby candles.  Well, it's easy to simply stamp one stubby candle on top of the other and hide the "seam" behind the banner to make taller candles.  Would you have even known?

Also, this stamp set comes in photopolymer which is GREAT!  Since the banners are bendy, you can easily bend the words to fit inside the banners.

I used the It's Your Party Enamel Dots on this card - but you can also use the new Regals Enamel Shapes in June when they come out for the exact same look!

I {HEART} This Card!

Swirly Bird and Pop of Pink - Perfect Together

I'm seriously head over heels in love with this card!  I think I saw the background idea somewhere!  I don't think I dreamed it up.  But, I don't remember where or who.  BUT, I immediately knew that I wanted to make a black background with swirls from Swirly Bird embossed in clear all over the background like I did here.

And, knowing just how amazing this year's catalog is, I knew I had to get a HUGE supply of Thank You cards ready to mail!  I'm guessing just a few of you may have a wish list ready for June 1st.  Is that you?  I know I have mine ready!

I found the perfectly sized "thank you" sentiment in the Happy Happenings Stamp Set.  And to be honest, there are quite a few sentiments in that stamp set that would work perfectly in that square for other occasions.

I cut the square and the scalloped square behind the card using the Squares Layering Framelits.  I just LOVE how they layer together.  It almost looks like the top square is embossed higher than the scallops.  But, it's just two different layers!

I was going to put strips of Pop of Pink Washi Tape behind the focal point, but I didn't like the way it looked with the black background showing through.  So, I used Pop of Pink Specialty Designer Series Paper instead.  Oh, and if the "Demonstrator Preorder" is any indication, this paper is going to be SUPER popular!  I'm sorry to say that demonstrators have already put this fabulous paper on backorder.  Not to worry, it's due to be back in stock in mid-June so you won't have to wait long.  And, there are 20,000 packs coming to the warehouse in mid-June, so you should be safe for a little while!

More Sneak Peek Swaps - Confetti Celebration

You didn't think I'd shared all of the swaps I received earlier this month, did you?  I have DOZENS left!  I'm trying to sprinkle them in here and there.  Both of today's cards feature the sneak peek stamp set, Confetti Celebration.

The first card (above) was created by Sherri Robinson.  I just LOVE the ombre-style fringe.  Any guesses which colors she used?  It's a great color comparison for the new Flirty Flamingo!  From top to bottom, she used:  Whisper White, Pink Pirouette, Flirty Flamingo, and Watermelon Wonder.  They look GREAT together, don't you think?  I'm sure the fringe was super-easy to create using our Fringe Scissors.

Confetti Celebration by Judi Anderson

The second card was created by Judi Anderson.  I gotta admit, this swap was kind of tough - we weren't allowed to use retiring products.  AND, several "staples" are being "upgraded" in the new catalog.  For instance, the current doilies are being replaced with a similar, but different style white doily.  Judi wanted to use a white doily so she took one of the metallic doilies and turned it over!  Voila!  White doily! 

I love the look of burlap.  But, our retiring burlap ribbon was just SO wide!  Judi kinda cheated here.  She cut the retiring burlap in half so that it resembles the AWESOME 5/8" burlap in the 2016-2017 Annual Catalog!  That's the perfect size for a card!  I can't wait to order some on June 1st!

Not So Very Manly May - Plus TWO Events!

Manly May Paper Pumpkin Alternate

I have been impatiently waiting for the Manly May Paper Pumpkin kit to arrive this month!  Demonstrators had the opportunity to see it and use it last month.  It's a pretty fun kit!  I've already broken into my second kit in under 24 hours and made 9 cards (so far) with many more alternate ideas floating around my head! 

Here are some of the cards I made using only the supplies that came in the box.  The kit contained supplies to make 8 cards.

Today's card is one of the alternate projects you can make with the kit.  I wish I could take credit for this one, but it was a Stampin' Up! designed alternate. I took the corrugated Pumpkin Pie sheet and cut the butterfly using the largest butterfly in the Butterfly Thinlits collection.  The corrugated layer is actually supposed to get adhered to the inside of the front of the card so it shows through the geometric design.  I swapped it out with a sheet of Whisper White.  I added a strip of Pool Party Cardstock (with corners rounded) over the solid white piece on the card base. 

The sentiment is stamped on a 1/2" x 4" strip of Whisper White.  I used two of the stamps that came in the kit to make up the greeting.

The Manly May kit came with a TWENTY piece Photopolymer Stamp Set that pretty much covers birthdays for the men in your life and Father's Day.  But, obviously (as shown above), they can also be used to make not-so-manly cards, too!

Up, Up, and Away!

Birthday Banners Sneak Peek

Today's card is a result of a reject.  Do you hold onto card elements that you made that you never used?  That's what happened with the little Happy Birthday banner on this card.  I received the Birthday Banners stamp set as an all-attendee giveaway at last month's OnStage conference.  I've actually pulled it out to use a few times but struggled....maybe because I'm lazy!  You see, there's a new set of framelits coming out in June that coordinates perfectly with the banners and labels in this set.  Unfortunately, demonstrators aren't able to pre-order that particular set of framelits.  So, I was reduced to fussy cutting.  ACK!

How'd I do?  Pretty good, huh?  So good that I didn't want to toss this little piece.  I'd actually made it for Monday's card but I didn't like it on the card.  It's just been floating around my desk ever since.  I also had some gold foil and vellum scraps laying around and thought....hmmm...I could make that little banner take flight under a group of balloons!  And, Voila!  Today's card was designed.

I think the only thing I wish I'd done differently is to draw straight lines on the balloons.  I purposefully drew them kinda squiggly.  But, if balloons are pulling up a banner, they'd be taught, right?

Project Tips Button

So, that brings me to my tips for this project....

I used vellum cardstock.  Adhesive is always very difficult to hide under vellum.  I very strategically hid glue dots under where the gold foil balloon.

Lesson learned:  If you're going to draw balloon lines, I'd recommend not waiting until the very end!  I had gaps between my balloons and my banner.  So, I had to gently rip my banner off and re-adhere it a bit higher.  The banner will hide the ends anyway!

Use your bone folder to curl the ends of the banner.  I know it's not incredibly visible from the photo above, but both ends of my banner gently curl away from the card base - making it look like it's fluttering.

Mediterranean Achiever's Blog Hop - 2016-2017 Annual Catalog Sneak Peeks

Welcome to the Mediterranean Achievers Blog Hop for May. I love participating with some of the other WORLD'S TOP DEMONSTRATORS!  That's right - this hop features Stampin' Up! demonstrators from around the world.  All of us have earned a FREE 7-night Mediterranean Cruise for TWO with Stampin' Up!  I'm sad to say I chose to "cash out" of the cruise again this time around.  But, I'm glad I still get to hop with these wonderful folks!  Those who are actually going on the cruise, are either in Europe already or are leaving soon!  The trip is next week!  And, yes, I'm wondering to myself...why on earth did I cash out?!?! 

Today's hop is all about sneak peeks from the 2016-2017 Annual Catalog.  I've actually posted quite a few before today.  I have them all lumped together here if you'd like to see them!

I decided to use the Oh Happy Day Card Kit to make some "alternate project ideas" for today's post.  I know some of you probably consider yourselves creative enough and flip right past the kits.  You may think they're just for beginners.  I'd like to encourage you to pause and take a look!  The day I sat down to design today's projects, I was apparently feeling very creative.  I tossed aside the project instructions, dumped the kit contents on my craft table, and just PLAYED!  There are some REALLY cool embellishments, accents, and card stock that you can't get anywhere else!  I did incorporate some "other" items into my cards.  I'm sure you probably have some "other" items laying around your craft space, right? 

Oh Happy Day Card Kit Alternate Idea 1

The first card I'm sharing is the first card I made.  I gotta tell you, ever since the February Paper Pumpkin kit arrived, I've been HOPING AND PRAYING for a swirly thinlit.  I'm SO glad Stampin' Up! read my mind and introduced the Swirly Scribbles Thinlits.  Don't remember the February Paper Pumpkin kit?  It was one of my all-time favorites!  It contained gold foil swirl stickers.  I hated to use them on my cards.  WELL, now I can make an endless supply of gold foil swirls!   In addition to the gold foil swirl, I also added the Bermuda Bay banner from my scrap bin.  The Black and White banner was part of the kit but I wanted another.  Did you notice that little glittery star?  It's SUPER thick - and it's wood!  The kit comes with hearts and stars that are die cut and glittery!  The embossed white layer?  Yup!  It comes in the kit already embossed! 

Oh Happy Day Card Kit Alternate Idea 3

Oh my goodness!  I instantly fell in love with the Tangerine Tango polka dot card base!  I should say that all of the card bases in today's post are in the kit.  The front is the pattern you see.  The back is a solid color.  And, the inside is plain white - perfect for adding a greeting!  This card also has an embossed white layer.  Everything on this card is included in the kit - except for the Tangerine Tango ink.  Basic Black ink comes in the kit, but I didn't want to use black on this card.  Oh, and did you see those little glittery dots?  The kit comes with those, too, in three different colors!

Oh Happy Day Card Kit Alternate Idea 2

The last card is probably my least favorite, but it's not bad.  The kit contains several different card sizes.  This one is supposed to be a "matchbook fold" card.  Well, for blogging sake, a matchbook fold doesn't photograph well.  And, I mis-stamped a sentiment on the card base and needed to recover.  SO, I chopped off the little tab that makes it a matchbook fold and slapped a doily over the mis-positioned sentiment.  You never would have known, would you?  There are all sorts of die cut shapes included.  You get several of these floral die cuts.  The banner is also die-cut.  You just punch them out and glue them to your card.  None of the words in the included stamp set really fit on the banner.  So, I pulled out the Thoughtful Banners stamp set - it contains a TON of little sentiments that fit!  And, I used my Tangerine Tango ink again.

A Pop of Pink!

Pop of Pink and Cottage Greetings

I have to say, I do not think the catalog does the new Pop of Pink Specialty Designer Series Paper any justice.  It's fun and gorgeous!  And, I LOVE LOVE LOVE the two specialty sheets that have gold foil accents.  I'm going to be hoarding those!

Today's card features some of that new paper.  However, I'll admit, this card didn't turn out quite as I had pictured in my head.  Do you ever have that happen to you?  I really struggled with the design.  Ultimately I decided to just stick with this card and share it with you.  I know you can take the idea and run with it!!!

Did you count the sneak peeks?  There are two:  Pop of Pink Specialty Designer Series Paper (page 172) and my favorite Swirly Scribbles Thinlits (page 194).

There's also a product on this card that is retiring:  It's My Party Enamel Dots (Occasions Catalog).  Granted, similar enamel dots will be coming out for the color families in the new catalog and available in June.

Stamper's Dozen Blog Hop - Masculine May

Thanks for stopping by!  Today's post is special - it's the monthly Stampers' Dozen Blog Hop featuring 13 wonderful Stampin' Up! Demonstrator "Leaders" from the US and Canada.  Granted, you may already know that if you're coming from Janet's or Jodi's blogs.

Our theme this month is Masculine Cards.  To be honest, I kinda procrastinated until yesterday to design a card.  I'd been having way too much fun with Sneak Peek products and I didn't want to stop.  I turned to Pinterest for inspiration and stumbled upon a card by someone named Lisa Addesa.  Her card didn't use any Stampin' Up! products.  Because I absolutely LOVE taking a non-SU idea and using my SU products to recreate it, I looked no further for inspiration.  My first card was pretty much the exact idea as hers - I just used SU products instead: Smoky Slate, Basic Gray, and Basic Black.  And I was happy with the result (below).

Then I thought, well, this layout could be great for ANY occasion (or gender).  And, with graduations coming up, I thought it would be fun to do in a school's colors!  So, I used Basic Gray, Basic Black, and Cherry Cobbler.  (This card has my dad's name written all over it.  He LOVES burgundy.)

For the third card, I got sick and tired of cutting little squares with my paper trimmer!  I thought to myself....circles would work, too, and I can punch them!  So, I made this third card using one of my favorite color combos (Pool Party, Bermuda Bay, and Cucumber Crush).

Which is your favorite?  I think mine is the circle card....but maybe that's because I cut A LOT of teeny tiny little squares.  But, instead of posting my favorite card, I thought you might enjoy seeing the "Evolution" my favorite card went through!  And, because the others weren't bad cards - I just like the circles best - I decided to share them all.  But, maybe that's because the circles remind me of soda bubbles and I'm a complete Diet Coke addict!  Now I'm thirsty!  Ha ha!

I bet you're curious about the sizes of my squares and circles....
Squares:  1/4", 1/2", 3/4", 15/16"
Circles:  1/4" handheld punch (RETIRING), 1/2" circle punch, 3/4" circle punch, 1" circle punch

And one important tip if you choose to make this card....The Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive is the BEST adhesive option!  It allows you to "wiggle" and "twist" and "slide" the little pieces so they're lined up exactly how you want them!  You can't do that with Snail or Glue Dots!

New Catalog "Palettes"

One stamp set demonstrators could purchase early last month was Painter's Palette.  I have a theory:  Stampin' Up! gives us stamp sets to purchase early that they don't think will be immediate best sellers.  They sure know what they're doing.  Painter's Palette was DEFINITELY one of those stamp sets.  Several of us took one look at it and grumbled when we saw it on our pre-order list.  Or maybe I just assume that everyone had the same reaction as I did.  I feel the same about the Playful Palette Designer Series Paper Stack.  Now, you may be thinking - but I love both of those!  And, that's the beauty of it!  There's something in the catalog for everyone.

Today I'm sharing with you some of my favorites that use some of those products.  I instantly fell in love with the first card (pictured above).  It was created by Glenda Travelstead.  I absolutely love her.  She reminds me of Lucille Ball.  Maybe I'm the only one who thinks that.  But, when she stamps on stage, she'll have us all ROLLING on the floor laughing.  Almost literally.  She (and the creators of all of today's cards) participated in the Leader's Swap I organized last month.  I've been sprinkling their swap cards into my posts for the last couple of weeks.  ANYWAY, Glenda made a couple of different cards for the swap but this one was my favorite.  She tells me that she can't take credit for the design.  Apparently someone swapped a similar card with her at OnStage.  I didn't see the original.  But, Glenda used the 5 new in colors to make this card - as well as Painter's Palette.  And I LOVE the result!

Terri Swap

This next card was created by Terri Meehan.  I think I shared another of her cards earlier in the week.  But her card caught my eye - maybe it was all of the white because that's my style.  But, I also loved how she added the sentiment from Endless Thanks as well!  She embellished with some of the Playful Palette Washi Tape and rhinestones.  Is this stamp set growing on you yet?  See how that happens?

Karie Swap

The third and final card for this morning (and I say this morning because there's a blog hop this afternoon) was created by Karie Beglau.  There were a few things that stood out to me about her card.  First, she took the time to stamp and cut out the frame and pop it up making it look more realistic.  And, I loved that she used the Playful Palette Designer Series Paper Stack to make a piece of art!  Now, I actually like that DSP when it's used like that!

Special Sneak Peeks

Dawn Griffith - One Wild Ride

I received a couple of swaps recently that are pretty dang special.  Why?  Because these two contain a few sneak peeks that you won't see all over the place!

The first card was not only made by Dawn Griffith, the stamp set was DESIGNED by Dawn herself!  That's right!  Did you know that at least 2 of the new stamp sets in the 2016-2017 Annual Catalog were designed by demonstrators?  One of the perks of reaching the One Million Dollar Milestone is that you get to sit down with a Stampin' Up! designer and design a stamp set!  If you know Dawn, you know that she and her husband love motorcycles.  In fact, her stamp set (One Wild Ride on page 115) includes a motorcycle stamp that was inspired by her husband's bike. 

You've read about the swap that I organized with a bunch of the top demonstrator leaders in Stampin' Up! that featured products we could pre-order after attending OnStage.  Well, Dawn's stamp set was not one we could order.  But, Dawn asked if she could use it.  We all jumped all over her - of COURSE she could use it!  We all would LOVE to have a card made by Dawn using the stamp set she designed!  Needless to say, her swap group filled VERY fast!  We all wanted to swap with her.

Any guesses about the second stamp set designed by a demonstrator?  I think it's going to be hugely popular especially for dog lovers - one of my customers said it's her favorite stamp set in the whole catalog.  Give up?  If you follow Angie Juda, you may know all about her adorable dog, Bella, and her cute bird, Skittles.  So, when I spotted Bella & Friends on page 101, I immediately knew she'd designed it.

Kim Williams - Fresh Fruit

The second card is also pretty exclusive.  I honestly can't remember if this set (Fresh Fruit) was one given out by Prize Patrol.  But, it was created by Kim Williams who demonstrated this card on stage.  She shared with us how she got the peachy look.  And, if you look REALLY close you'll see TWO other sneak peeks that demonstrators can't order until June:  Fruit Stand Designer Series Paper and the Gold 1/4" Natural Trim Ribbon.

I don't think I realized just how much ribbon is retiring until I pulled it out of my ribbon holders and only had 7 rolls remaining (plus metallic twine and baker's twine - I store those separately).  ONLY SEVEN ROLLS!  That means we are getting a TON of new ribbon!  And I love this 1/4" Natural Trim Ribbon!  We now offer a metallic ribbon that works with both Vanilla and White cards.  (I don't know about you, but I have issues pairing white and vanilla.)  So, if you love any of the current Stampin' Up! ribbons, order them now!  Chances are they are retiring.

So Many Bundles!

Pun Intended!

As you probably know, in the back of each Stampin' Up! catalog there's a special section of stamps that are just for hosts.  Just because you don't host an actual event doesn't mean you can't still get those sets!  Here are a couple of other ways to qualify for them:

  • Place a single order of $150 or more all by yourself!  With the new catalog sales period starting in just under 3 weeks, you know that's not hard to do!  I'll bet you have $150 or more items on your wish list already!
  • But, I know, $150 is A LOT to spend at one time.  So, I'm always happy to start your own, personal "Host Code".  What is that?  It's a code I can assign that you can add to your online orders.  Whenever you place an order, attach the code.  Once the total of the orders reaches $150 (or whatever level you'd like), I can close out your code and you can cash in on the freebies!
  • Similar to your personal host code, I can create a host code for you and your friends, too!  Share the code and share the benefits!

Swap-Amy

I'm sharing more swaps today!  These were all created with the Pun Intended host set and showcase some of the different images and sentiments that are included.  The first card I shared (with the camera) was created by Terri Meehan.  She used a couple of the new in colors:  Peach Parfait and Dapper Denim.  She paired those with Watermelon Wonder.  I'm loving that color combo!  Both she and another demonstrator both used the camera to make a patterned background.  Some things that may not be very visible in the photo...she embossed the background (after stamping) with the Stars embossing folder - appropriate since the sentiment says "you are awesome".  She also stamped a subtle grid image before punching the heart.  It's little details like that that add so much depth and dimension to a card!

The second card was created by Amy Storrie.  I also love her color combo - Flirty Flamingo, Crushed Curry (I'm just guessing here on the yellow), and Basic Black.  It's super sharp.  She added just some subtle shine using the Affectionately Yours Washi Tape which contains some copper shine.  She cut out one of the bulbs and popped it up after sponging some Crushed Curry highlight and adding some Crushed Curry Baker's Twine.

The third card is just stinkin' adorable and created by Genevieve Ko.  I love her color pairing - Smoky Slate and  Mint Macaron.  They'd make a great gender neutral baby card!  She embossed just the Mint layer. And I love how she's shown us that it's okay not to color the bee - or even stamp it in black and yellow!  It looks adorable stamped in Smoky Slate.  It would be so easy to stamp a huge stack of these to have them on hand for your upcoming birthdays.

How Do You Feel About Moroccan?

Another stamp set that does absolutely nothing for me in the new 2016-2017 Annual Catalog is Moroccan Nights pictured on page 67.  But, when I saw some cards made using the set, I was sold!  AND, I absolutely love the whole suite - especially the coordinating washi tape.  Demonstrators aren't yet able to order the washi so I'm chomping at the bit for June 1st when I'll be ordering some.

The first card displayed above was created by Jessica Brigden.  She incorporated just about every single stamp that is included in the set on her card.  She also used the washi tape and coordinating Designer Series Paper as her color inspiration:  Emerald Envy, Dapper Denim, Delightful Dijon, Early Espresso, and Cajun Craze.  I also love the little rhinestones she added. Such a cute card!

Moroccan-Dawn-O

The second card was created by Dawn Olchefske.  I think hers is a completely different take on the set!  She used the larger medallion to make a backround that is popped up and framed by the border image.  I also love her linen thread and just a touch of Gold Metallic Thread in the bow to add a little bling.  She's splattered Gold Wink of Stella over the card front for some extra dimension and texture.

What a Trio!

Today I'm sharing with you the first three of the cards I received in a recent swap.  All three of these are incredibly involved for a swap!  There's fussy cutting, embossing, HEAT embossing, and a shaker card!  I have to admit, I was NOT a fan of the Marquee Messages stamp set pictured on page 111 of the new 2016-2017 Annual Catalog.  But, Stampin' Up! sure knew what they were doing giving it out to the folks at OnStage.  I've changed my mind!  I love the samples that are being shared with this set.  I even used this set for one of my swaps without using the Marquee sign!  It just has a great retro feel.

The first card posted above was created by Sharon McNeely.  It's a shaker card!  She features all sorts of sneak peeks on hers!  There are three new in colors:  Dapper Denim, Emerald Envy, and Sweet Sugarplum. Unofficially, I do think Sweet Sugarplum is the favorite of most demonstrators and customers.  It was certainly the color that was most prevalent in the swaps.  What other sneak peeks do you see?  It's probably hard to see, but the confetti behind the window was punched using the new Sprinkles punch.  And, of course Sharon used the new Foam Adhesive Strips to make her window sheets.  I love that her card was inspired by the OnStage décor.  There were a lot of white brick walls - just like her background.

The second card was created by Carol Payne.  I love the white embossed on black cardstock on hers!  It's so sharp.  She also added just a little glitz with some Gold Wink of Stella on each of the dots on the arrow.

The third card was created by Candy Michael.  And oh my gosh has she incorporated a lot of fun elements!  She's used the Playful Palette DSP Stack (a sneak peek) as her color inspiration:  Emerald Envy, Blushing Bride, Peach Parfait, and Basic Black.  I love how she used the dots on the arrow as inspiration to add a few Blushing Bride Glimmer Dots.  And, of course we have the brick wall embossing folder again - which works perfectly as a wall behind the marquee.

Ramblings of a Swap Organizer

If you've been around awhile, I'm sure you have either heard of or took part in a swap.  If you haven't, I'll give you a brief overview...when you join a swap of say 20, you'll make 20 of the same project.  19 other folks will also join in and make 20.  You'll then meet up at a given time and trade with everyone leaving you with 20 different projects!  It's great for inspiration, ideas, and sharing.  Even if you don't like someone's style, you might love their layout or color combo or technique. 

Demonstrators are always swapping.  We love to get tons of ideas to share with you!  I know I love to participate in swaps when I have a huge event coming up - it provides me with the ability to get many more samples than I'd be able to create.  It's far simpler to design and make 20 of a single card than it is to come up with 20 new ideas, right?

Thank You Swap Bonnie

Recently a demonstrator posted on one of my Facebook groups to see if anyone would be willing to organize a "quick-turnaround", in-the-mail swap using sneak peek products.  I volunteered to organize.  Ha!  This Facebook group is packed full of some of the world's top leaders in the Stampin' Up! universe.  I participated in one swap last fall where over 4,000 cards were swapped!  The organizer went NUTS (and had lots of help)!  I figured due to the time restrictions, this one would be small - and it was...relatively speaking.  There were still 1,000 cards that all arrived at my house this week, had to be sorted, and shipped back out.  Many of the participating demonstrators had team meetings this upcoming weekend, so getting a stack of swaps was going to be a GREAT way to display new products.

(If you're unaware, only demonstrators who attended OnStage events in April were able to order sneak peek products until this week.  All other demonstrators had to wait until this week.)

Thank You Swap

Silly me scheduled the dang thing the to be completed in a week and a half (that's just an INSANE turn-around time in terms of swapping), I was trying to manage sign-ups while my parents were visiting and all of the swaps were due to arrive while I was vacationing in California last weekend.  Oh, and the swaps had to be mailed back out on the exact same day I was expecting to mail the new catalogs to customers.  Did I mention I signed up to make 54 cards in that time, too?  Oh, I have a full-time job on top?  And I'm hosting a dinner party the same week?  Yep!

My swap was divided up into 3 groups.  The first two groups had 20 participants each.  The third group only had 14.  Many folks (like myself) participated in multiple groups.  And the payoff at the end is FANTASTIC!  I have over 54 cards (plus a few bonus ones) that I didn't have to make!  I'm sure I'll be sharing them with you, casing some of them, incorporating some into classes, or I have a few other ideas up my sleeve!

The three cards I'm sharing today were all Thank You Cards I received from demonstrators in addition to their swaps.  The first one was created by Kim Williams who used the Fresh Fruit Sneak Peek stamp set.  She demonstrated with this stamp set at OnStage.  And, to be honest, I don't remember if this was one of the cards she demoed or not - I may have to watch the video again to be sure!  It also incorporates two, new in colors:  Dapper Denim and Emerald Envy (my favorites).  And, the strip of DSP is from the Playful Palette DSP Stack.

The second card was created by Bonnie O'Neill.   If you follow my blog, you know I love incorporating a layer of vellum cardstock every now and then. So, the fact that she has a vellum pennant on her card is perfect for me!  I also love her layering in general.  I never would have thought to layer circles behind the butterflies.

The third card was UNSIGNED!  UGH!  I'm sure at one point I knew who it came from because it was in her swap envelope.  But, there were no markings on the card and I didn't realize that when I set it aside!  It's a gorgeous card.  She's heat embossed the rose image on Watercolor Paper and then used an Aqua Painter and reinkers to color the flower.  It's gorgeous.  Note: I believe Black Embossing Powder is currently retiring and sold out.  But, you can achieve the same look with Versamark, Basic Black Ink, and Clear Embossing Powder.  Granted, next month you can order COPPER embossing powder and that would look sharp on this card, too!

It's a Trifecta!

Trifecta: that seemed a pseudo-appropriate word to use today as I share my third swap card featuring sneak peek products AND because the Kentucky Derby is this weekend!  Will you be watching?

Did you check out my other two sneak peek swap cards?  I posted the first one here on Tuesday and the second one here on Wednesday.  If you read all about the first card, I explained how I used my Layering Squares Framelits to make a rectangle.  Again, it is 5 scallops taller than it is wide.  I also cut my Whisper White focal point layer with my paper trimmer.  I predict you'll be seeing LOTS more rectangles than squares on my cards in the days to come!

I really wanted to incorporate the Affectionately Yours Designer Series Paper on this card, but I didn't have enough to make a stack of swaps.  Well, the In Color Designer Series Paper Stacks were the perfect solution!  I cut a 4" x 5-1/4" layer of Mint Macaron Polka Dot from the stack as the background.

I used two of the washi designs behind the focal point.  And, because I can't seem to keep anything truly simple, I used a 3/16" wide strip of Mint Macaron Card Stock layered over the washi.  But, NO, plain card stock wasn't enough!  I paper pierced all along the Mint Macaron Card Stock so that it coordinated with the polka dots in the Designer Series Paper background.

The adorable "Edison Bulb" image comes from a super cute host set.  Yup, that means you have to host a workshop/virtual party or place an order of $150 or more by yourself or with some friends.  The set is adorable.  Did you notice that the filament in the bulb says "love"?  These bulbs are super trendy right now.  In fact, we have them in several places throughout our home.  I stamped the bulb image in Versamark and then heat embossed with the new Copper Embossing Powder.  The copper coordinates perfectly with the copper foil dots on the washi!  Can you see the shine on the top layer of washi?  It's definitely more visible on the right side.  To finish it off, I stamped the coordinating sentiment in Watermelon Wonder ink.

In the Mood for Retro?

I just have to admit, I've fallen head over heels in love with this card!  I was skeptical at first, but the longer I've looked at it, the more in love I am!  I even sent it to my team asking their opinion for reassurance. 

Today's card is the second card I made for a big sneak peek swap I organized.  I shared the first card here.  Today's card also includes several sneak peeks:
- Marquee Messages Stamp Set
- Emerald Envy Card Stock and Ink
- Melon Mambo Thick Baker's Twine (just like the current thick baker's twine, but now in Melon Mambo)

Being the crazy fool that I am, I decided this would be a "quick and easy" card so I decided to make 20 of them for the swap.  What was I thinking?!?!?!  It's not bad if you're making a couple, but after 20 I was ready to pull my hair out - and afraid I'd run out of baker's twine!

Here's how I made the card:

The colored strips are Melon Mambo, Pumpkin Pie, Crushed Curry, Emerald Envy, and Tempting Turquoise.  I'd love to say that I'm creative enough to come up with that combo all on my own, but I'm not.  It's a color combo in one of the Designer Series Paper collections in the new 2016-2017 Annual Catalog.  I spent A LOT of time trying to decide the color order.  And I'm sad to say, after all of that I assembled the swaps upside down (face palm).  The card displayed here was the prototype showing how they should have looked.  I definitely liked the Melon Mambo baker's twine layered over the Emerald Envy instead of the Pumpkin Pie card stock.  Oh well.  Unless the folks who receive my swap come to my blog, they'll never know!

The colored strips are 3-3/4" x 15/16".  Yes.  I'm that crazy.  But, that's the way they fit!  They're adhered to a Whisper White layer that measures 4" x 5-1/4".  After adhering the strips to the white, I ran the whole sheet through the Big Shot using the Large Polka Dot Embossing Folder.

The vellum layer measures 2-3/4" x 3-1/2" and is adhered to the strips using SNAIL.  I then wrapped the Melon Mambo Thick Baker's Twine around twice.  I almost wrapped it three times and I'm so glad I didn't!  I would have run out without the ability to order more until yesterday! 

The pompom-like bow was pretty easy.  After wrapping the Melon Mambo Thick Baker's Twine around twice and tying a single-knot, I laid two 1-1/2" pieces of Melon Mambo Thick Baker's Twine in the middle of the knot before tying the second knot.  I pulled tight and then frayed all 6 of the ends.  I think it's super festive and it looks better than a plain knot or even a bow.

The focal point was adhered over the vellum using Dimensionals because the twine is so thick.  My team thought the card needed bling.  I thought enough is enough and the people who receive my swap can add bling if they feel it is necessary.  Ha Ha!  I think this card screams "teen birthday"!  What do you think?

Craving a Sneak Peek?

The Retired List has been out for a couple of weeks now.  Have you placed your order?  I don't want you to miss out on any retiring products.  There are still LOTS on the list - many of which are discounted.  If you've "been around" for awhile, you probably know that a Retired List is super exciting - especially one of this size!  It means that TONS of new products are coming your way. 

I've received A LOT of messages, texts, and emails from you asking about your catalogs.  Well, I'm excited to say they should be shipped out this week!  Today was the first day I could order them for you.  I should have them in the next couple of days.  I already have my mailing labels, In Color samplers stamped and assembled for each of you, lists of product bundles, my exclusive bundles and shares, and some wish lists ready for when they arrive.  I'll be shipping them out directly to you via Priority Mail so they should be in your hands very, very soon!  I'm sure I'll post about it on my Facebook Page, too!

Now, let's chat about today's sneak peek.  I participated (actually organized) a big swap with some other demonstrators who had their products early.  Most of them arrived yesterday and more are due today!  It took three or four separate trips to the mailbox to get them all - and I even took a large shopping bag knowing I wouldn't be able to carry it all.  It's like Christmas in my house!  I have over 1000 cards sitting just outside my craft room.  Yes, yes, yes....I'll be posting them over the next few weeks.

Boy, I got off-topic a bit there....anyway, today's card is one of three I designed for that swap.  Can you count the Sneak Peeks?  I'll give ya a hint, there are three on this card:
- Layering Squares Framelits
- Love & Affection Stamp Set
- Floral Affection Embossing Folders

Now, you may be thinking, "Ummmm.....you said SQUARE Framelits, but I see rectangles."  YES!  That's right!  I turned my squares into rectangles!  The Layering Squares Framelits are like a Buy One, Get One product!  I ran my square framelit through the Big Shot, but STOPPED when I got to the edge of the square so I didn't cut the 4th edge.  I then "backed it out", slid my framelit down by 5 scallops, turned the paper around, and cut again - being careful not to cut that 4th edge.  I'm thinking you may be interested in a video about that!  I'll throw one together so you can see that in action!  I didn't use the framelits to cut the Whisper White rectangle.  For a rectangle shape, I found it was just easier to cut it to the size I needed with my Paper Trimmer.

The Floral Affection Embossing Folders are a set of 2.  They're about 1/2 the size of a regular embossing folder.  I embossed two of the corners of my Crumb Cake layer.  And, the images in the Love & Affection Stamp Set coordinate perfectly with the folder.  I thought it made the images look like a continuation of the embossing.  What do you think?  I think it was a TON of work to crank out 20 of these - even if they look simple. Each one was run through the Big Shot 4 different times.

A Fun Surprise!

I wanted to whip up a quick card earlier this week for a friend.  I knew I wanted to do a collage card.  And, I knew I wanted to use colors in the sneak peek Affectionately Yours Specialty DSP coming out in the 2016-2017 catalog.  Today's card is the result. 

You may be wondering about the "fun surprise".  Well, when I opened the Awesomely Artistic stamp set box, the Night of Navy dragonfly fell out - all stamped and perfectly cut!  I kind of remember creating him for a card and not using him.  However, I didn't want all of that fussy cutting to go to waste, so I stored him in the stamp set box.  WELL, am I glad I did!  He was the perfect color for the color combo I had in mind! 

SO....my tip of the day....if you fussy cut something (or make something) you don't use, store it with your stamp set!

I added a few extra, little touches to today's card.  I stamped the leafy images in Crumb Cake on Crumb Cake.  I then splattered some Gold Wink of Stella across the card by flicking the brush using my finger.  I really look like C-3PO from Star Wars now.  Three of my fingers are gold!  Thankfully it washes right off. 

I also used my Very Vanilla Craft Ink Spot that came in the April Paper Pumpkin kit to sponge the 4" x 5-1/4" layer.  However, I then also added a bit of Gold Wink of Stella to the edges, too. 

For added embellishment, I added a strip of Sweet Li'l Things Washi Tape (the Tip Top Taupe roll), a piece of a Tea Lace Doily, some Gold Metallic Baker's Twine, a strip of Night of Navy CS, and three tiny pearl accents.  Since we are now in the Retiring Products Period, the following items are retiring on this card:
- Sweet Li'l Things Washi Tape
- Tea Lace Paper Doilies
- Gold Metallic Baker's Twine

As of the time I composed this post, all three of those items were still available for purchase!  But, all three are also only available while supplies last!

April Paper Pumpkin - And a Bonus!

I immediately fell in love with the April Paper Pumpkin kit!  I'm not usually a fan of the 3D projects that come in the kits, but this wreath is stunning!  It was super quick to put together.  AND, it contained an ink pad that you can't buy any more - Very Vanilla Craft Ink.  BUT, when I looked at the wreath, I didn't think Spring.  I actually thought Christmas decor!  So, I'm thrilled to have extra kits.  I'll be saving them for the upcoming holiday season.  It would be so simple to swap out the yellow flowers and the sign (which, by the way, that sign isn't cheap cardstock)! 

BUT, in addition to this month's kit, subscribers also received an exclusive 17-piece photopolymer stamp set that is super flexible and great for lots of occasions.  I whipped up this quick card (cased from the Paper Pumpkin insert).

Ya Gotta Love Pity Swaps!

I hate to say it, but I didn't make a single swap card for last week's OnStage conference.  There were a lot of factors that went into that decision.  BUT, a couple of lovely demonstrators still gave me their swap.  The one pictured above was from Rachel Durtschi.  I had admired her card as she swapped it with other folks.  I loved the colors she chose to use.  And I loved the relative simplicity of it.  Well, relative if you don't count all of the stamping!  That's a lot of stamping!  She used the Flower Patch stamp set.  The colors were Hello Honey, Delightful Dijon, Pool Party, Lost Lagoon, Old Olive, Calypso Coral, and Basic Black.  If you love the color combo, don't waste any time - a couple of those colors are retiring at the end of May!

Deneen - Swap

This second card was created by my team member, Deneen.  We had SO much fun hanging out together over the course of the conference.  She used a sponge dauber to add color to the solid butterfly shape.  I love the subtle way it gets darker as it gets closer to the edge of the wings.  I'm just guessing here, but I believe her color combo was:  So Saffron, Garden Green, Night of Navy, Old Olive, and Pool Party.

I hope one or both of these cards inspire you today!

The New 2016-2017 Annual Catalog Sneak Peeks!

Almost immediately after the Opening General Session began, they passed out the new 2016-2017 Annual Catalog.  OMG!  It's PACKED full of new products and BIGGER than our last catalog!  There are some pretty incredible new dies, stamp sets, copper foil DSP and accents, great new punches, accessories.  Stampin' Up! was smart enough to give us about 15 minutes to flip through the catalog.  I just can't describe how fun it is to sit in a room full of demonstrators and friends and "oooh" and "ahhh" about all of the new products!

As promised, I can now show you some of the new products!  First up are the five new in colors....along with a sample of the new 2016-2018 In Color Ribbon!

From top to bottom in the photo above are:  Emerald Envy, Flirty Flamingo, Sweet Sugarplum, Dapper Denim, and Peekaboo Peach.  We received a small sampling of the new 3/8" Ruched Ribbon at CentreStage Leadership attached to a bookmark.  I absolutely love the new ruched ribbon!  What are your favorite colors?

Affectionately-Yours

I think many of us instantly fell in love with the Affectionately Yours suite of products shown above.  You probably can't see in the photo above, but the floral sheet of Specialty DSP contains copper foil accents!  It's GORGEOUS in person!  The coordinating colors are Crumb Cake, Copper, Cucumber Crush, Daffodil Delight, Mint Macaron, Night of Navy, and Watermelon Wonder. 

The embossing folder used on the Whisper White piece is new.  It's actually one of a set of two in the "Floral Affection" embossing folders.  Each folder measures 4-1/2" x 2-7/8".  They're perfect for a little accent like the one shown above or a focal point on a card.  The stamp set we used is called "Love & Affection" and contains 16 photopolymer stamps that coordinate perfectly with the designer series paper.  Not shown is yummy, coordinating washi tape and copper embossing powder!

 

Oh Happy Day

This card pictured above is from the "Technique" spotlight.  And, you may be thinking, "Kristin, I know how to make a shaker card."  But, wouldn't a Shaker Card be so much easier if you had long, skinny dimensional strips???  (FYI, the answer is YES!)  These new "Foam Adhesive Strips" are 1/8" wide and 9" long.  Each package contains 10 YARDS of foam strips (a photo of the new foam strips is pictured further down in the post)!  I'd secretly been hoping for smaller dimensionals.  WELL....we may not have smaller dimensionals.  BUT, I immediately thought you could cut teeny tiny 1/8" x 1/8" dimensionals from these strips for attaching tiny pieces to a card as well.  Now, because they were designed for shaker cards and spinner cards, they're a bit thicker than our regular dimensionals.  I definitely see more shaker and spinner cards in my future!  Oh, and did you spot the other sneak peeks above?  Maybe a new confetti punch?  And, obviously some new stamp images from the Confetti Celebration stamp set.

More Sneak Peeks

Oh, and I'm not done with the Sneak Peeks!  I have more to share!  I don't know about you, but when I get the new catalog, I immediately turn to the accessories section!  Stampin' Up! had some samples of the accessories up on the display boards, so I snapped a few photos to share.

Up above I mentioned the Foam Adhesive Strips....well, apparently I snapped a photo of them!  Oh, and peeking out of the top corner are some IN COLOR DOILIES in the 2015-2017 In Colors!  And, I'm SO sad that Candy Dots are retiring.  BUT, they're being replaced by these awesome Enamel Dots (and shapes).  You now get 2 different sizes of circles as well as hearts and stars.  AND, they're in the new In Colors as well!  HOWEVER.....be warned....there are NO NEUTRALS!!!  However, we do have Metallic Enamel Shapes in Gold and Silver.  They're hard to see but they're pictured in the second photo.  They also come in the same shapes.

I'll try to explain the ribbons pictured above:

Left Column (Top to Bottom):
- Thick Baker's twine in Cucumber Crush, Melon Mambo, and Whisper White.  We will still carry Bermuda Bay and Calypso Coral.
- 1/8" Stitched Ribbon in Melon Mambo and Smoky Slate.  This is the same as the Bermuda Bay 1/8" Stitched Ribbon in the Occasions Catalog which will continue to be available in the Annual Catalog!
- 1/4" Natural Trim in 2 colors:  Gold and Silver.  Each ribbon has a single "stripe" of gold or silver running down the center of the natural-color ribbon.

Second Column (Top to Bottom):
- Metallic Thread in Copper and Black.  We will still carry Silver and Gold.
- 5/8" Mini Striped Ribbon in all of the five 2015-2017 In Colors
- 5/8" Burlap Ribbon (LOVE).  The thicker Burlap we currently carry is retiring.

Third Column (Top to Bottom):
- 3/8" Ruched Ribbon in all five new 2016-2018 In Colors.  (A better picture is posted above)

- AMAZING new Very Vanilla 1/2" Lace Trim (this replaces the current lace trim)

OnStage LIVE Highlights

Wow!  I just attended an incredibly fun Stampin' Up! Event - OnStage Live.  It's the "new" convention that is held twice a year.  And, I have to say, I had more fun over the past three days than I've had for YEARS at any other Stampin' Up! event.  I attended with Deneen.  She's one of my team members from Texas.  We'd never met so just getting to meet in person was one of the highlights of the event!  It was so fun to attend an event through the eyes of a first-timer.  I also enjoyed introducing her to some of her favorite bloggers - Patty Bennett and Dawn Olchefske.  At the event, the new 2016-2017 Annual Catalog was unveiled.  And, everyone agreed that it is a pretty amazing catalog.

The event was PACKED full of stamping presentations featuring products from the new Annual Catalog.  I'll post more photos tomorrow - we're allowed to post EVERYTHING (except photos of the insides of the catalog) starting at 1pm MT tomorrow.  But, I'll give you a quick taste. 

We attended several "product spotlights" where we had hands-on experience with some of the new products....including 5 new In Colors!  The spotlight presentation rooms were so much fun.  There were faux brick walls and archways like the ones pictured below.  80 demonstrators at a time had the opportunity to listen to a 10-15 minute presentation focusing on four different themes: kits, in colors, a product suite, and a technique. We then went "behind the curtain" (you can see it in the background) where we made a quick make & take.

At the In Color spotlight, we made a sampler sheet (that I managed to lose somewhere) that featured a card stock, ink, and marker sample of each of the new colors. 

At the kits spotlight we made a sample from one of the upcoming kits (and it's super cute). 

At the product suite spotlight we made a cute card and got to use one of the new embossing folders, stamps, and YUMMY new Specialty Designer Series Paper. 

And, at the technique spotlight, we got to practice the technique using some new accessories that are coming out. 

That's all I'll say about that right now!  Check back tomorrow at 1pm MT to see the projects I made at these spotlights....don't worry...even though I lost my In Color sampler, I still have samples of the new colors for you!

There was also a hands-on Paper Pumpkin station where we got to see AND make a sample from the May Paper Pumpkin Kit.  AND...I'm actually allowed to show it to you!  YES!  NEVER before have you gotten to see the next month's Paper Pumpkin Kit.  I know so many of you are tempted to subscribe, but are worried you won't like the kit.  I'm going to err on the side of caution and not reveal it until tomorrow.  I know I've seen the sample floating around.  BUT, we were told we couldn't share anything until Monday at 1pm MT.  So, I'll have photos of the full kit and the card we made on my blog tomorrow. 

On Thursday night, the "leaders" in attendance were invited to a "Black and White" CentreStage Live event.  It was held at the Grand America Hotel in Salt Lake City.  It's got to be the "fanciest" hotel downtown.  They are famous for their Sunday brunches - especially the Easter Sunday Brunch.  We were transported over to the hotel where we enjoyed mocktails and appetizers before heading into a seated 4-course meal and entertainment.  As soon as I walked in, I spotted two grand pianos up on stage and that could only mean one thing - dueling pianos!  And, they did not disappoint!  Here are a few shots of the menu, food, and entertainment.  I apologize the photos are dark.  My iPhone can only do so much in a dark ballroom.

Go Team!

Stamper's Dozen Blog Hop - Friends are Forever

Thanks for stopping by!  Today's post is special - it's the monthly Stampers' Dozen Blog Hop featuring 12 wonderful Stampin' Up! Demonstrator "Leaders" from the US and Canada.  Granted, you may already know that if you're coming from Janet's or Jodi's blogs.

I'm not sure if Patty realized that today's hop would go live during Stampin' Up!'s semi-annual OnStage conference when she picked the theme, but I don't think it could have been any more perfectly timed!  The theme is "Friends are Forever".  If you ask most demonstrators what they love most about being a demonstrator, they'll tell you it's the friendships.  And I couldn't agree more!

I have definitely made some lifelong friends with my team, with other demonstrators, and with MANY of my customers!  I miss so many of them since moving to Utah.  I developed some really good friendships over the years - especially with those customers (now friends) I stamped with every single month at clubs and classes.  Boy, do I miss those nights!

I've also made friends with people I've never met!  Today's post is about one of those friendships!  This year I have a team member flying in from Texas to attend OnStage Live with me.  I've never met her in person until this week!  I can't wait to get to know her even more over the next few days.

If you've ever attended or read about previous "conventions", one of my favorite traditions about "convention" are roommate and team gifts!  I know she doesn't have a roommate this year so I put together two gifts for her.  First, I packaged up some of my team's favorite Utah Caramels from the Chocolate Covered Wagon in Gardner Village.  Their caramel is world famous and has been featured on the Travel Channel and Food Network!  We lived within walking distance of the shop when we first moved to Utah.  VERY dangerous!  I made the box using the Gift Box Punch Board.  I made the largest box which measures 4" x 4"x 4" out of the Shine on Specialty Designer Series Paper.  That collection of paper is a heavier weight so it's PERFECT for making boxes!

I also packaged up some Stampin' Up! pens and some Post-It Note flags so that she can mark up her new 2016-2017 Annual Catalog!  That's right!  Those of us attending OnStage will be receiving the new 2016-2017 Annual Catalog this week.  We aren't allowed to show you ANYTHING for a few more days.  But, I imagine there will be a few things she'd like to flag for her first order!

I Just Can't Help Myself!

I just can't help myself!  I'm just drawn to this color combo.  So, I apologize if you don't like it - but what's wrong with you?!?!  Just kidding!  If I've learned one thing in my almost 10 years as a Stampin' Up! demonstrator, it's that we are all very different.  What I may think is the ugliest stamp set in the catalog is someone else's favorite.....without fail. 

That just happened to me a couple of months ago.  Are you familiar with the stamp set in the Occasions Catalog - Apple of My Eye?  I just couldn't understand why anyone would want to buy that set.  Well, don't you know, I was chatting with one of my team members and she said that was one of her favorite new sets?  And I know she has good taste!  LOL!

The inspiration for today's card came from all sorts of demonstrators.  I've seen so many people using strips of cardstock to make a color block background.  It's been on my "to create" list for quite some time.  So, are any of you surprised that I used my newest favorite color combo when I got around to making one! 

It's a great technique for using up scraps.  I pulled these out of my scrap bin.  And, if you're not a Paper Pumpkin subscriber, you may be scratching your head when you see the embellishments on my card - the Cucumber Crush baker's twine and the Cucumber Crush pearl accent were both in the March Paper Pumpkin kit.  I had some leftovers so I added them to today's project.

Super Duper Simple Cards!

I sat down over the weekend to make some knock-your-socks-off cards....and it didn't happen.  Apparently my mojo wanted to make incredibly quick and simple cards to share.  Do you mind?  That's kinda my style these days.  I don't know when it happened, it just did.  I certainly wasn't in a rush to make cards - I had all weekend without anything on the agenda.  And I'm certainly not lacking in supplies.  I just like a lot of white space these days.

The card above was the first card I made.  And then I realized with the same stamp set and supplies, I could quickly churn out similar cards for different occasions!

If you read yesterday's blog post, you may remember I talked about keeping it simple.  I definitely showed restraint today!  I stopped at just the right place....at least I think I did!

Here are a few other variations.  Which is your favorite?  I'm torn between the birthday and thank you cards.

Need some dimensions?  The cards is a "Standard" card size - 4-1/4" x 5-1/2".  The DSP (patterned paper) is cut to 4" x 5-1/4".  I then cut the top Whisper White layer to 4-7/8" x 3-5/8".

I May Have Gotten Carried Away

I may have gotten carried away with color when I created this card.  It started out pretty simple - a sentiment with three cupcakes.  Then I decided to add some washi tape along the bottom.  Then I thought I'd add fun little enamel dots to not just one, but all three cupcakes.  And then I thought it would be fun to punch out alternating cupcake wrappers.  But, I wasn't done yet....I added baker's twine.  SO.....my question to you is.....did I go too far???

Have you ever done that when crafting?  You just think....one more little something-or-other will make it look better.  And you can't help yourself....you add something else....and maybe even something else!  And before you know it, it looks like a craft store threw up on your project.

I'm certainly learning that KISS is definitely a good acronym to remember:  Keep It Simple, Stupid.  I think I've heard nicer variations of that saying, but when I'm talking to myself, that's my mantra.  I didn't listen this time.  I challenge you to KISS!

Wanna Guess My Favorite New Color Combo?

Ever since I opened the March Paper Pumpkin kit, I've been addicted to this color combo:  Bermuda Bay, Cucumber Crush, and Soft Sky.  I've just never been brave enough to pair up Cucumber Crush and Bermuda Bay - but they totally work! Thank you Paper Pumpkin!

I've actually had some of these supplies sitting out for a few days.  I was going to use them to make some "Congrats" cards for some of my Stamp Sorority Team but I had absolutely no mojo last weekend.  Can you relate?  So, as I was getting all of my stamping supplies out to in hopes of stamping a Saturday away, I started to put leftover supplies away so I could have a clean work area. Well, that Cucumber Crush polka dot paper called to me.  AND...since I'd just written out all of my April birthday cards (yep, I've addressed my April birthday cards already and it's only April 2nd), I knew I needed to replenish my birthday card assortment for May.

Now, if you just recently had a birthday this year and didn't receive a card from me, I didn't forget about you.  I'm FINALLY getting around to joining the #imbringingbirthdaysback movement in April.  I've had tons of good intentions for a couple of months, but never got off my butt.  SO...hold me to it!  I WANT to send more cards!  If you have a birthday in May, maybe today's card will show up in your mailbox! 

I'll give you a little hint....you know how Facebook tells you when your friends have birthdays on their birthday so you can wish them a Happy Birthday?  Did you know you can go into Events and see all of the upcoming birthdays for the week or month or year?  Yes!  You don't have to be blindsided by a friend's birthday on the actual day.  You can plan ahead!  SO....if you're my friend on Facebook and your birthdate is public information and I know your address, I have every intention of sending you a card!  Granted, if we're not friends on Facebook or you don't publish your birthdate (I don't) or I don't have your address - send it to me!  I'd love to add you to my list!

So....back to today's card.  It's fairly straight forward (I think).  I stamped and punched a bunch of balloons (ha! no pun intended).  The one supply you might not recognize is the Cucumber Crush Baker's Twine.  Just like the stamp sets that come in the Paper Pumpkin kits, there are usually embellishments that are unique to Paper Pumpkin - and in the March kit, there was some yummy Cucumber Crush baker's twine AND Cucumber Crush pearl-like accents!

I'm Sure Gonna Miss These!

Happy April!  I'm super excited about this month.  Why?  Well, there are quite a few reasons!  First, the semi-annual Stampin' Up! On Stage conference (formally known as convention) is being held here in Salt Lake City in just 2 weeks!  EEEK!  AND....do you know what we'll get to see at the conference?  If you guessed the 2016-2017 Annual Catalog, you're RIGHT!  AND....do you know what coincides with a new catalog???  A retired list!  Can you believe it?  We're getting ready to say goodbye to some of our favorite products already. 

Note:  did anyone count how many exclamation points and question marks are in the above paragraph???

In addition to seeing many of my stamping friends and a new catalog, my parents are also coming to Utah to visit for the very first time!  I can't wait to share our new home state with them. I'm sure they'll quickly realize why we fell in love with Utah!  There's lots of shopping, eating, and sightseeing on the agenda!  I even think we're gonna tour the Stampin' Up! Home Office!  (I probably ought to call about that one of these days.)

Anyway....you probably stopped by to be inspired, right?  Let's talk about today's card, shall we?  I thought I'd share with you this fun collage card I created this week.  While so many people are creating projects out of the Occasions Catalog, I'm having fun revisiting some old favorites from the annual catalog.  Now, I have no idea which stamp sets will be retiring.  BUT, I do know that most of the colors I used on this card ARE scheduled to retire:  the 2014-2016 In Colors (Blackberry Bliss, Hello Honey, Mossy Meadow, Tangelo Twist, and Lost Lagoon).  If you've been around for a "retirement period" before, you probably know that everything except stamp sets are only available "While Supplies Last".  So, I encourage you to order any refills BEFORE that retired list posts!  In the past those retiring colors sell out VERY quickly.  And....many of us believe there just might be a "color change" happening this year.  There has been no announcement.  There have been no hints.  BUT, I've watched many core colors go on backorder over the last few months.  Many of the "color family" products have gone on the backorder list as well.  To me that's an indicator that more than just the 2014-2016 in colors are going away.  However, they're all still available.

I guess I got off topic there, didn't I?

Thanks for stopping by!  Today's post is special - it's the monthly Stampers' Dozen Blog Hop featuring 13 wonderful Stampin' Up! Demonstrator "Leaders" from the US and Canada.  Granted, you may already know that if you're coming from Lee's or Jodi's blogs.

This month we all participated in a color challenge.  I love a good challenge - and I used a little bit of every single color on my very simple card today!  I'll give you a hint - these are the colors in the Wildflower Fields Designer Series Paper!  That's one of the options you can choose for free when you order $50 or more between now and the end of March!

These days I love a decent amount of white space.  Maybe it's because I'm trying to simplify my life.  I dunno.  Whatever it may be, I hope my card inspires you to give the color challenge a try!  If it doesn't (or even if it does), I hope you'll continue on with the hop!

Mediterranean Achiever's Blog Hop - One For the Guys!

Welcome to the Mediterranean Achievers Blog Hop for February. I love participating with some of the other WORLD'S TOP DEMONSTRATORS!  That's right - this hop features Stampin' Up! demonstrators from around the world.  All of us have earned a FREE 7-night Mediterranean Cruise for TWO with Stampin' Up!  I'm sad to say I chose to "cash out" of the cruise again this time around.  But, I'm glad I still get to hop with these wonderful folks!

If you're just joining the hop, this month's theme is "One For the Guys".  I think that's a theme that most of us struggle with.  I put off designing a card for today's hop for weeks.  Seriously.  I knew I didn't want to use any of the image stamps from the Occasions Catalog or Sale-a-Bration brochure since I thought it was likely that my other hoppers would be using them.  And, I wanted something different. None of the images from the Annual Catalog jumped out at me.  That's when I stumbled upon Six-Sided Sampler.  When I spotted the hexagon patterned paper in the Go Wild DSP Stack, the deal was sealed!

I decided simple was better, but added a few embellishments/special touches. I added some heat embossing to the Tip Top Taupe hexagon.  I stamped the dotted outline and added a button to the Whisper White hexagon.  And, I chose to keep the Basic Black hexagon plain since I knew my sentiment would be layered over it.

What do you think?  I'll tell you one thing I regret not considering when making this card - the direction of the hexagons on the DSP.  Did you notice that they're at a different angle than my punched hexagons.  I'm a very matchy-matchy person so it kind of bothers me.  (Clearly it didn't bother me so much that I felt the need to remake the card.)  What do you think?

Super Simple Easter Favors

It doesn't get much easier than this, folks!  Stampin' Up! has made it easy for you this year to make Easter favors.  If you haven't seen them yet, there are adorable new Polka Dot Cone Cellophane Bags in the Occasions Catalog.  You get 25 bags for $6.  Come on!  That's a great deal! 

Carrots

I filled mine with Tangerine-flavored Jelly Belly Jellybeans.  Jelly Belly are available in the bulk foods section of my local grocery store so I was able to buy just the color I wanted.  Thankfully, I don't mind the tangerine flavor because I'm currently eating the contents of my carrot favor while I type this!

I tied my carrots closed with some Cucumber Crush lace ribbon and added a tag with a great greeting!

Keeping it Simple...

Every now and then I love to sit down and make an incredibly involved card with lots of layers, fussy cutting, and embellishments.  But sometimes it's fun to just keep it simple, too. 

Birthday-Blooms

This card is far simpler than it may seem.  Thanks to Designer Series Paper, an adorable embellishment, and some heat embossing it looks pretty snazzy!  I cased this card from the quarterly Stampin' Success Magazine for demonstrators and I think it's stunning.  The background layer is just a piece of Birthday Bouquet Designer Series Paper.  I stamped the flower image from the Birthday Blooms stamp set in Versamark and heat embossed with gold powder.  The sentiment is stamped in Calypso Coral.

For a small embellishment, I punched a coordinating piece of Birthday Bouquet Designer Series Paper with my Banner Punch and added a gold Bow Paper Clip.  What do you think?  Super simple, quick, and stunning!

What To Do With Timeless Texture....

I had to giggle when one of my customers recently ordered the Timeless Textures Stamp Set and exclaimed as she was reading off her order to me, "I don't know what I'm going to do with it"!  Can you relate?  I know I could.  I was instantly drawn to this stamp set but really didn't know what I could do with it.

Well, Timeless Texture is one of those stamp sets that's perfect for Collage Stamping.  Here are some things to think about when you're creating a successful collage:

  • Variety is key.  Include small and large images together.  The Timeless Textures stamp set has done the guesswork for you - it already includes both of those!
  • Experiment.  Playing with these stamp set is lots of fun!  There is no wrong way of doing it.  Perfection certainly doesn't matter.  And, there is really no such thing as stamping straight - straight is boring when it comes to a collage!
  • Don't overdo it.  Three or four stamps is probably a good rule of thumb.  More than that is simply too busy.

Here's a collage card that I created that is pretty much cased exactly from the quarterly Stampin' Success Magazine.  Okay, okay...you're right.  If I cased the card, I didn't really experiment, did I?

Friends & Flowers

Today's card is another project from this weekend's workshop.  I always ask my hostesses if they have any requests.  (I always hold my breath that they won't be crazy.)  This weekend's hostess has hosted quite a few workshops for me over the years.  And, generally, she always likes to include Easter-themed cards.  She wanted to use the Easter Lamb that I shared yesterday and the "rabbit punch set".  HUH?!?!? 

I was pretty sure we didn't have a rabbit punch.  But, I know this hostess is pretty "up" on all things Stampin' Up!  So, I quickly pulled out my Occasions Catalog and flipped through it several times.  I had NO CLUE what she was asking for - so I had to ask her.  I'm sure she's thinking, "Duh, Kristin - the stamp set in the back of the Occasions Catalog with the bunny images that you punch out using the Festive Flower Builder Punch!"  She was much kinder in her reply.  But, I'd totally forgotten this set was in the catalog!  I never turn back that far because I really don't like the Apple of My Eye Stamp Set on the opposite page.  I was totally missing the absolutely adorable Friends & Flowers Stamp set!  That bunny is just stinkin' adorable!  Have you done the same?  Although, I know some of you actually like my least favorite stamp set in the catalog - Apple of My Eye.  Isn't it funny how that works?  I'm gonna warn ya - you probably won't see many (if any) samples with that set on my blog.  But, keep checking in - you never know when I might change my mind.

Friends&Flowers

ANYWAY....back to today's card.  If you looked in the catalog (page 46) and saw the Friends & Flowers Stamp Set, you might have guessed where my inspiration came from.  However, the card in the catalog doesn't actually punch out the bunny.  I looked at Pinterest at a few other samples.  One person had folded down the bunny's ear and that was cute.  I decided to subtly "curl" my bunny's ears using my bone folder to add dimension.  It makes him really look like he's popping out of the circle.

I added some Pink Pirouette to his cheeks using a Q-Tip (a recurring theme for this workshop).  And, I used a Blender Pen and Pink Pirouette reinker for his ears.

Did you notice the subtle strip of glitter along the bottom of the Mint Macaron tag?  That's the new glitter tape that you can get FOR FREE during Sale-a-Bration when you place a $50 order!  I LOVE THAT STUFF!!!  You can even dye the clear glitter tape and make it any color you'd like!  I'm gonna be stocking up on that for the next month and a half because it's AWESOME!
